Meeting Information

Meeting Friday, October 24, 2008, 1:00 pm:
  • Mr. David Well from the Consumer Center for Health Education and Advocacy (CCHEA) will be here to present a program on Medicare and Health Insurance Counseling/Advocacy. CCHEA is a branch of the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. I'm sure this program will be useful to only those who have, at some point in time, had one problem or other with Medicare or private health insurance coverage. Since I have never met a person who has not had such a problem, I'm betting this program will be great for everybody. 'See a bunch of you at the meeting!

Meeting Friday, November 21, 2008, 1:00 pm:
Note: Third Friday in November
  • Keeping with our established practice of offering interesting, informative, and sometimes exciting programming, this month we are pleased to have Robotic Surgeon Dr. Carol Salem as our featured speaker. Dr. Salem will describe and discuss this relatively new, though now widely used robotic surgical procedure. For those not yet aware of this new practice, the daVinci Surgical System seamlessly replicates the movements of the surgeon's hands with the tips of micro-instruments, allowing minimally-invasive laparoscopic surgery to be performed through a dime-sized incision. The surgery is actually performed from a computer console. Great "stuff!" You don't want to miss this meeting.

Note from your Webmaster: Dr. Salem made this presentation to the Ostomy Association of San Diego in January. It is really great!

Christmas Holiday Party -- Friday, December 12, 2008
  • Mark your calendar now for our annual Christmas Holiday Party, which will once again be held in the elegant setting of the Garden Room at El Camino Country Club in Oceanside. Those who have attended this festive event over the past few years will remember the beautiful setting, delicious food, and great time enjoyed by all. Of course this is a Member/Guest affair and attendance is by reservation only. Last year we were only one table shy of being at room capacity, so I would suggest you get your reservations and dinner selections in early. Party details will be published in the October newsletter, and will also be available at our October meeting. The dinner choices will be Prime Rib of Beef Au Jus or Roasted Turkey, both with “all the trimmings” We will have a gift exchange, silent auction, “Big Bucks” raffle, and perhaps another surprise or two. Plan now to be with us on Friday, December 12.
